CUSTOMER COMMENTS: april 2002: Our party of four arrived at 4:40 only to join a crowd gathered at this brick wall barricade with a wood door with a little sign for Al Forno's.This gained entrance to a grapevine arbor that led to the factory entrance and lots of stairs to a second level dining room. Old but clean with white linen's.. The atmosphere got no points from us. The menu's with astromomical prices and limited selections were presented and we were advised that if we wanted dessert to order it with our entree's because they were made to order (9.95 to 16.95). We opped not to order.
Known tor thier Wood Grilled Pizza appetizer we ordered 1 to sample. It provided 4 pieces and it was delicious (14.95). Our entree's were Ziti w/ ground sausage, Cod loin w/rice, and sirloin w/potato.Price range was 19.95 to 37.95 for the sirloin plus 8.95 tor the potato (is that nervy or what). We all had a coffee $3. with no offer of a warm up.
The meals were perfetly prepared but not worth the gouging prices. Providence proveds lots of fine Italian restaurants with reasonable prices.

My friends and I have always been intrigued by Italian culture and new experiences, with food in particular. My friend, JulieAnne is a wine marketing rep., who has clients on The Hill and surrounding areas. So we dine on Federal Hill and Downtown Providence quite often and have become somewhat of food critics. IÕve recently taken my friend, Becca, to Bella Vista for dinner because neither of us had been. We were both awed by how big and beautiful the restaurant really is. They seem to have somewhat kept the nautical theme from when the restaurant was The Boathouse. The atmosphere made us feel as if we were dining on a ship headed for Italy. We were greeted and seated by a well groomed gentleman who had appeared to manage the restaurant. The staff was very friendly. Our waiterÕs name was Hudson; he came around every 10 minutes to see if we needed anything. Becca and I both started off with a glass of Pinot Grigio, then shared Calamari Frititi as an appetizer. The food was magnificent. Our orders came just as we ordered. Becca and I both had steak. I had ordered medium well with a side of asparagus and she, medium with a side of steamed vegetables. Cooked to perfection, each bite of steak practically melted in our mouths. We shared tiramisu for dessert. It was too strong on the expresso, but other than that, it was ok. After dinner we headed over to the bar for cocktails. We made some new friends, most of them about our age, 23 years old. We had good food and good conversation with old and new friends. Bella Vista was an excellent experience over all.

CUSTOMER COMMENTS: My wife and I spent this weekend in Cranston with our daughter who is a student at Brown. She took us to the new Gate House Restaurant in Providence, where we experienced a most delightful meal, excellent service, and a pleasant atmosphere. We will definitely return.
