A great summer daytrip
Franconia Falls, The Wilderness Trail, Lincoln NH
The best natural swimming hole in America. To reach Franconia Falls, a 7 mile round-trip farely flat hike or mountain bike ride except for the last 1/2 mile.through New Hampshire woods. The hike begins with a walk over a suspension bridge and continues along the Franconia Brook and an old railroad bed that leads you to the remains of an abandoned logging camp straight out of the past.
When you reach the naturally carved rocks that form the smoothed water paths and pools and particulary the natural rock slide. Just 200 yards from the flumes is a quiet pool with cliff sides for jumping and diving....ALL AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Park at the Wilderness Trail parking lot 3 miles north of Lincoln along the Kancamaugus Highway. National Forest stickers required and available on site. Avoid the crowds by going in the morning or call 603 536 1315 for reservations.
Directions: I-93 North to Rte. 112 East. The trail bebins at the Lincoln Woods Visitor Center.
