. CUSTOMER COMMENTS:...Hi my name is Gina from Rockport, My husband and i had a rare night out and decided to try out The Mandrake,in Beverly. I cannot even begin to say how bad each course was. But the one thing i can say was the house special The seafood mac and cheese for $25.00 was 1/2 # of lousey penne pasta with two shrimp, two scallops and a very small lobster claw need i say more. We will not be going back. . cUSTOMER COMMENTS: Where's the love? Maybe Valentine's Day is not the best time to check out a restaurant. Certainly the over-priced, poorly served, even more poorly cooked attempt at an upscale $50 prix fix experience in Beverly will keep me from going out to any restaurant for any special days for years! Here is a chronological summary of my thoughts: . Nice bar and feel to the room. Lighting fine, not too noisy, nice front windows on the street and great potential for a nice relaxing dining experience. My spouse loved the "jester" drapes. . I ordered a margarita at the bar and asked what Tequilas are available. I was told the range is $9 to $12-that seems expensive for a regular size drink. I asked for a midrange Tequila, and later got a bill for $11.50 for the nondescript, not very well made, unspecial drink. Middle is $11.50? . We were seated and given menus. Much to our surprise, since it wasn't mentioned when we made reservations or when we were seated and given the menus, it is a $50 prix fixe deal. The menu is limited but looks OK, with 12 items to choose from for a 3-course meal, including a "free" lobster ravioli, champagne, and after-dinner coffee. We decided to stay. . After we ordered our meals, I asked if I can order a side of fries, then had to convince the server that yes, I really . We got one lobster ravioli each. Mine was plateddifferently from my wife's, so I shared my scallion. The table next to us never got their ravioli and the couple two tables away got 2 each! . We were never offered nor given the champagne. Neither was the table next to us, although the other of our neighbors to the left was! . With tip, $153 for a dining experience that was memorable in all the wrong ways. I'm not feeling love for Mandrake, and neither is my spouse. Z. Peters . CUSTOMER COMMENTS: My husband and I tried Mandrake in Beverly MA and we loved the experience.
